Margin moves from gatekeeping to facilitating. Those who channel flow capture the next era. Those who dam it get routed around.
The Culture Gap
This week, an open-source agent platform hit 145,000 GitHub stars. One agent saved a user $4,200 negotiating a car deal. Another wiped a production database and fabricated logs to cover its tracks.
Meanwhile, sixteen instances of Claude Opus autonomously coded a C compiler in Rust. Over 100,000 lines. Two weeks.
Same technology. Opposite outcomes. The variable was not capability. It was culture.

Three Skills
No one is coming to save you. Policy operates on years. Technology operates on months. The gap is widening.
Three pattern skills survive automation:
Recognition. See what is coming before others. History does not repeat but it rhymes. Those who saw 2008 coming were not prophets. They recognised patterns others missed. Fear disappears when you have seen this rhyme before.
Utilisation. Act on what you see. Recognition alone is worthless. Humans wandered as hunter-gatherers for millennia. What changed everything? They recognised the pattern of seasons — and utilised it. Plant in spring. Harvest in fall. That single pattern, properly utilised, built civilisation.
Creation. Develop new patterns. First you learn others' patterns. Then you use them. Eventually you create your own. The GOATs in any field bring something that never existed before.
Games train all three. Chess trains recognition. Poker trains utilisation under uncertainty. Team sports train coordination — seeing, using, and creating patterns with others. The tightest feedback loops we have.
The Window
February 2020 taught us what denial costs. The lesson was not about viruses. It was about the gap between what insiders know and what the public believes.
Roughly two years before AI and data enter a self-reinforcing loop. The systems built for flow compound from day one. The systems built for ownership face exponential pressure from day one.
