Learning
Can you still perform when the support disappears and the context changes?
Learning is the capability to change what you can understand and do, then carry that change into a different context. Purpose determines why the change matters.
Consumption, completion, recall, and assisted output can support learning. None proves it. The learner must regulate practice, reflect on evidence, repeat independently, and transfer the capability.
Model
plan → attempt → monitor → seek support → fade support
→ act independently → transfer → reflect → adapt
Capability Map
- Learning how to learn: choose valuable knowledge, acquire it efficiently, test it honestly, and transfer it into independent judgment.
- Metacognition: notice what you understand, what you do not, and which strategy you are using.
- Self-regulation: plan attention, monitor progress, manage effort, and change strategy.
- Reflection: compare intention, action, evidence, and consequence without protecting a preferred story.
- Adaptability: change method, pace, support, domain, or direction when evidence warrants it.
- Transfer: recognise and apply a capability in a materially different context.
- Evidence retention: keep the baseline, attempts, feedback, counterevidence, and decision available for future judgment.
- Resilience: recover from difficulty without treating strain as proof of worth or persistence as the only virtue.
Two Capabilities
Learning combines sensemaking—building and revising an understandable model—with self-direction—planning, monitoring, regulating, reflecting, and transferring practice. Either one without the other is incomplete.
Practice
Before a learning cycle, write:
What I want to do independently:
Why it matters and to whom:
What I can do unaided now:
What support I will use:
How and when support will fade:
Where I will test transfer:
What will make me adapt, redirect, or stop:
After each attempt, ask what you decided yourself, what support supplied, which errors you can now detect, what remained after support faded, what transferred, and what the beneficiary experienced.
AI Assistance
AI can explain, generate practice, simulate cases, provide feedback, and help reflection. It can also conceal weak understanding behind fluent output.
Compare:
unaided → assisted → verified → independent → second context
Keep Prompting and Orchestration as practices inside AI Literacy. They improve interaction with AI but do not replace domain knowledge, verification, independent judgment, or transfer.
Proof
Learning is stronger when the learner can explain the model, detect errors, act independently, adapt the capability to a different context, create value another person receives, and retain enough vitality, belonging, and integrity to continue well.
Failure Modes
- Confusing consumption, completion, recall, or assisted output with learning.
- Keeping support static until it becomes dependency.
- Repeating one context without testing transfer.
- Persisting after evidence shows harm to wellbeing, integrity, or beneficiary value.
Changes my mind: comparable evidence that supported output reliably predicts independent second-context performance without fading would change this model.
Agent Use
- Page job: develop metacognition, self-regulation, reflection, adaptability, resilience, evidence retention, and transfer.
- Human authority: purpose, consent, wellbeing, values, and stop decisions.
- AI assistance: explanation, practice generation, feedback, simulation, and reflection.
- Required proof: independent and second-context performance, not assisted output alone.
Context
- Shared Wisdom Loop — gather, test, teach, transfer, and improve knowledge across people and agents
- Education Process — run one bounded learning investment
- Principles — test the assumptions guiding practice
- Platform — select support without confusing tools with learning
- Performance — compare evidence with the intended change
- Education Performance — distinguish activity, capability, transfer, outcome, and sustainability
- AI Literacy — use and govern AI assistance
- Truth Recognition — match confidence to evidence
Questions
- What can you do unaided today, and what would count as a meaningful change?
- Which support should fade next?
- Which materially different context will test transfer?
Next question: What evidence will decide whether you reinvest, adapt, redirect, or stop?
