Practitioner Archetype

Which real workflow must this answer survive?

Problem: Research can sound useful while leaving the user to invent the missing steps.

Question: Will the answer work for the person, pressure, and workflow it claims to serve?

Decision: Use the Practitioner when operational truth matters more than elegant explanation.

Boundary

Inside: workflows, operators, users, friction, adoption, and proof of use. Outside: abstract claims that never meet action.

Fights For

Operational truth. A claim is not finished until someone can use it without inventing the missing steps.

Signals

  • The answer must survive use.
  • The work affects a real workflow.
  • The team is drifting into abstract agreement.
  • The output needs an operator or customer reality check.

Use

  1. Name the real job this answer must improve.
  2. Name who uses it, when, and under what pressure.
  3. Run the recommendation against the workflow.
  4. Mark the first step that feels vague, slow, or brittle.
  5. Rewrite the answer until the user can act.

Failure Modes

  • One local experience is treated as universal truth.
  • The workflow is implied, not named.
  • Edge cases are dismissed as implementation details.
  • The user must translate the output before it helps.

Council Role

The Practitioner keeps the council honest about use. It pairs with the Academic for evidence, the Skeptic for failure modes, the Economist for tradeoffs, and the Historian for precedent.

Changes my mind: A recommendation repeatedly survives real use without needing an operational lens.

Retrieval

Pull this page when a research council needs the Practitioner lens.

Version delta: Split the Stanford-style research council into individual archetype routes.

Context

  • Archetypes - choose the mindset the situation demands.
  • The Tight Five - keep the selected council bounded and complete.
  • Performance - test whether the selected lens improved the real outcome.

Questions

Next question: What would break first if someone tried to use this answer today?

  • What signal would prove this route is the right one?
  • What would make this pattern stale, duplicated, or misnamed?
