Purpose navigation gateway design memory

Page job

Help a visitor recognise that finite energy makes purpose necessary, understand bounded agency, and see how Value, Belief, and Control work together to hold a course through life's journey. Nav is the higher-order navigation system and First Mate; it helps the reader perceive and steer but never owns purpose, consent, or consequential choice.

Before introducing the Navigation System, orient the reader through five human questions: who they are, why they are here, where they are heading, why that future matters, and what reward would make the effort worthwhile. State the protected boundary separately so reward never licenses harm or conceals cost.

Reader sequence

finite energy / unbounded possibility
→ bounded capability without surrendered authority
→ learner / decider / merchant as one returning loop
→ Value sets the compass
→ Belief draws the chart and possible future
→ Control steers the helm and keeps the vessel responsive
→ observed reality corrects the course
→ one contextual capability handoff

Purpose and human authority must appear before Playbook depth. Present the three systems as one connected navigational sequence, never as unrelated branches or competing cards. A visitor may enter where the course is least clear, but each station must reveal its relationship to the other two. A clear direct handoff to Decision Trace appears before the deeper orientation and repeats at the end. The same human-owned intention continues into Authorise and Compare Outcome; readers need not complete a compulsory tour.

Presentation and copy (updated 2026-09-16)

Use the inherited editorial tokens, semantic headings, 44px actions, and mobile-first reading order. Spend the page's persuasive weight on headlines and visual structure: a cold reader should grasp the journey from the H1, section headlines, illustration, and diagram before reading supporting copy.

The triad cards prioritize the question—that's what the reader needs to answer. Visual hierarchy: question (display size), system name (display weight), role label (supporting context), action label. Equal visual weight across all three cards through identical structure, generous spacing (min-h-80), and unified dark-to-primary styling. No card is visually subordinate.

The orientation questions use larger display sizing and improved density with rounded connector badges. The feedback loop visualization uses chip-style tokens for better scannability and visual rhythm. The handoff section uses a gradient surface card to signal transition from navigation theory to bounded action.

Use one governing image—the human captain sailing towards a North Star—with compass, chart, helm, vessel, changing sea, and returning wake each transferring a literal part of the system. The image must inform rather than decorate and requires equivalent alt text; never place essential text inside it.

Use one vertical semantic sequence rather than an equal-weight card chooser. Link labels must predict the destination and the question it helps answer. Keep First Mate and navigation metaphor subordinate to literal explanations. The page-private Three.js canvas mirrors one relationship only: Purpose names the voyage; Value sets the compass; Belief draws the chart; Control steers the vessel; and observed consequence corrects the next course.

The canvas is decorative and aria-hidden; it uses deterministic bounded geometry, existing brand tokens, DPR below 2, container resize and intersection observers, hidden-tab pausing, a static reduced-motion frame, and complete WebGL cleanup. Unsupported WebGL hides the canvas without changing the page. Do not add remote assets, shader packages, ThreeUI runtime code, or a second Three.js dependency.

Proof boundaries

A route choice is not an improved decision. A click, output, or transaction is not beneficiary value. Rendered proof must cover 320, 375, 768, and 1440px; source proof must reject direct homepage Purpose links that bypass /priorities, a duplicate chooser, generic atlas handoffs, meaning carried by motion, and language that assigns purpose or consequential judgment to Nav or an agent.
