When agents call the shots, proof decides where the money goes.
Agents will search, decide and pay faster than any person can check. The people and businesses they trust will be the ones who can show what was intended, who allowed it, and what actually happened.
Money is no longer the scarce thing. Trust is.
Capital is already chasing too few trustworthy ideas. In 23 token sales on MetaDAO, backers offered $624.7 million and the projects took in $45.4 million. The hard part was not finding money. It was deciding what deserved it.
Payments are shrinking to the size of a single task. By late 2026, agents had made more than 138 million payments over the x402 standard on one network, and 87% were under ten cents. Nobody can yet say how much of that is real commerce rather than testing, so treat it as a direction, not a verdict.
When the buyer is an agent, it doesn’t see your advert. It reads your offer and checks your evidence.
Six questions every agent job must answer.
Trust is earned step by step. Each step asks one question, and each answer leaves proof the next step can rely on.
| Step | It answers | What proves it |
|---|---|---|
| Intent | What should change, and for whom? | A written intention the person accepts, before any work starts. |
| Authority | What may the agent do, and when must it stop? | A signed mandate with limits, an expiry and a stop rule. |
| Execution | Did the agent stay inside its mandate? | A record of each action, tied to the mandate it used. |
| Proof | Did the promised outcome happen? | Evidence checked against the agreed standard by a named person. |
| Settlement | Who gets paid, and when? | Payment released on accepted proof. No proof, no payout. |
| Learning | What would we do differently? | The result changes the next intent, not just the report. |
Where it breaks at machine speed.
Every step reports success, but the person’s outcome never happened. An agent passes on authority it was never given. A record is tamper-proof, but the thing recorded was wrong: a ledger proves nothing changed, not that it was true.
One rule prevents most of it: no step may quietly turn an observation into proof, a permission into broader authority, or a local success into a finished outcome.
Our bet: build the proof before the payout.
We are building the front of this loop first: clear intent, bounded authority and checked evidence. Settlement comes last, once the proof is real and the law is clear. In New Zealand, the FMA has so far declared one NZ-dollar stablecoin, NZDD, not to be a financial product, under strict conditions; that is not a green light for every token. This is our bet, and it is not yet proven.
Write one trace before you delegate.
Pick one job you would hand to an agent. Answer five lines. If you can’t say what releases the payment, you aren’t ready to delegate it.
What should change, and for whom: What the agent may do, and when it must stop: What will count as done: Who checks it, and how: What releases the payment:
