Neural Radiance Field (NeRF)
A neural radiance field (NeRF) is a neural network designed to generate new views of 3D scenes from a set of 2D images.
- RegNeRF (CVPR 2022)
- pixelNeRF (CPVR 2021)
- Mega-NeRF (CVPR 2022)
- LOLNeRF (CVPR 2022)
- NSVF (NeurIPS 2020)
How it works
- It is trained to reproduce input views of a scene using a specific kind of error reduction method called a rendering loss.
- The process involves interpolating between input images to render a complete scene, making it a valuable tool for generating images for synthetic data.
- A NeRF network maps directly from viewing direction and spatial location (5D input) to opacity and color (4D output), using a technique called volume rendering to create new views.
Current Situation
- NeRF is computationally-intensive, meaning it requires a lot of computer power and time. Processing complex scenes can take hours or even days.
- However, there are new algorithms being developed that can significantly improve the speed and efficiency of this process.
