NZ Citizenship
As a New Zealand citizen with an active NZ passport, you can register your Danish-born children as New Zealand citizens by descent and obtain NZ passports. Children by decent can also apply on their own accord at any time (under current regulations)
With physical copies of Danish Birth Certificates we could potentially apply while in New Zealand.
Citizenship by Descent
Need to order physical Birth Certificates.
How to apply for NZ citizenship
- Can't apply online when applying for citizenship by decent
- Application PDF Form
- Order Birth Certificates from the church.
- Gather the required documents, which typically include:
- Originals of full birth certificate
- a photo taken less than 6 months ago that meets passport photo requirements.
- Get identity referee details
- Both parents to agree consent if 15 or under (see below)
- Post to London
- Courier Delivery Costs
- After the application
New Zealand Passports
You can apply for your children's New Zealand passports at the same time as registering their citizenship:
- Use your RealMe login to start the online passport application process.
- Provide your children's details and your own information as the parent.
- Arrange for an identity referee to confirm your children's identities.
- Submit suitable passport photos of your children.
- Provide consent as the parent/guardian.
- Pay the applicable fees and provide delivery details.
Parent Consent
If you are applying for a child aged 15 years or under:
- 1 parent must fill in the ‘consent giver’ section of the application form and complete an online identity check
- all parents must be told about the application and give their consent for the child to apply for New Zealand citizenship.
Duel Citizenship Rules:
Identity Referee
The referee must:
- be aged 16 or over
- have a current or expired New Zealand passport
- have known you for at least 1 year, or since birth
- not be related to you or part of your extended family
- not live in the same house as you
- understand that they may be contacted to verify details about the application.
You need to provide these details about the referee:
- full name
- date of birth
- contact number
- residential address
- New Zealand passport number.
If you are applying for citizenship in a group
- You need an identity referee for each person applying.
- You can use the same identity referee as long as they meet the above requirements for each person applying.
